Barry Hamilton

Barry has been married to Donna for almost 52 years. They have 3 sons, 10 grandchildren, & 2 great grandchildren. During a Cardiac Catheterization (Heart Cath) procedure, in March 2019, Barry suffered a stroke that resulted in permanent loss of his vision. His sweet wife, Donna retired and has been selflessly taking care of him since that day. In June 2022, Barry was diagnosed with unresponsive bladder & prostate cancer. The oncologist informed the family that this was the worst due to reoccurrence & progression. Barry began his cancer battle here locally receiving IV immunotherapy until his cancer returned on Nov 2, 2022. His physician recommended he seek treatment at UAB. The new oncologist informed the family that he was not a candidate for bladder removal nor did he qualify for the trial. For over a year, he has endured multiple procedures including monthly chemo treatments through his bladder. Unfortunately on April 23rd, his primary physician informed the family that Barry is in Stage 5 renal failure. Since he is not a candidate for dialysis, hospice was recommended to help keep him comfortable.

Every day, his family is making as many memories as they can during the time they have left with him. During this entire journey, Barry has kept his quick, witty sense of humor which has not changed even after learning his new prognosis. Please pray for peace, comfort, & strength for his family as they prepare to say goodbye to a husband, a father, a grandfather, a brother, & a great-grandfather.
